While Jeep's second electric offering, the Wagoneer S, is making its way to dealerships in the US, we got a glimpse of its third model - Recon EV.

Leaked spy shots have revealed a prototype undergoing testing in Michigan. The vehicle in the photos keeps the rugged, boxy silhouette of the Wrangler, but adds a modern twist. A large infotainment screen sits on the dashboard, accompanied by a smaller driver display screen and conveniently located HVAC controls. A grab bar for the front passenger adds a touch of Wrangler-esque practicality.

Jeep promised that the Recon EV will stay true to the legacy of off-road prowess established by the Wrangler. With removable doors and windows, it's designed to tackle challenging terrains, including the legendary Rubicon Trail. The company promises that the Recon EV will have the range to complete the Rubicon Trail and return to civilization for a recharge.

The spy photos also offer a peek at the Recon EV's potential off-road capabilities. A red panel below the control knob appears to be the traction interface system, with "Rock" and "Mud" modes visible. Additional settings like Snow, Sport, Track, and Tow are also expected. The display in the spy photos indicates a range of 147 miles at 66% battery charge, suggesting a total range of approximately 200 miles. However, considering the promised range of over 300 miles for Wagoneer S, it's reasonable to expect the Recon EV to offer a comparable, if only slightly lower, range.

The Jeep Recon EV will use the STLA Large platform, the same architecture that underpins the Wagoneer S and Dodge Charger Daytona. This platform is designed to accommodate a wide variety of battery sizes and powertrains, allowing Jeep to offer different configurations.

Jeep has confirmed that the Recon EV will debut in early 2025. Details of pricing and specifications will be announced closer to the launch date, but estimates put the starting price at around $60,000. The higher-end trims like the Rubicon or Sahara will potentially go as high as $80,000.

That's going to look sweet sitting in the service dept as Jeep takes 4 weeks to figure out what's wrong with it.
