Geely

Geely will pull the wraps off its latest EV brand on February 23. The new brand will be called Geely Galaxy (Geely Yinhe) and will join the fast-growing portfolio owned by the Chinese company. The new brand is targeting the medium to high-end vehicle market, one that BMW 5 Series and Mercedes E used to rule years ago.

The company has already started a marketing campaign for the launch event, which will take place next week in Hangzhou. First teaser images were published of the electric car bearing the new company name and from what we can see, the upcoming EV looks rather striking.

Geely is promising class-topping aerodynamic efficiency, the company promising the car will have “extremely low air resistance.” The car in the pictures is certainly large and sits really low to the ground. It has an attractive silhouette with the passenger cab moved backwards giving it that classic performance car look.

It is hard to tell at this point if this is just a prototype to showcase possible future designs from the new brand, or a production-intented vehicle. There are already a lot of interesting details on those few photos released by the company with a clear emphasis on aerodynamics. The rear passenger doors do open rearwards which is probably not going to make it to the production car, unless Geely wants to make sure the new brand has a signature feature.

Geely’s portfolio of brands is growing steadily and the company is taking advantage of its highly flexible SEA electric car platform. It underpins cars from Volvo, Polestar, Smart and Lotus just to name a few.

The company sold over 1.4 million vehicles last year across all of its brands, over 260,000 were pure electric cars and over 66,000 were plug-in hybrids. This year Geely plans to sell over 1.6 million cars with at least 600,000 of them being all-electric. With its vast manufacturing base and now even bigger range of EV brands it seems Geely is on course to achieve its plans.
