Google is implementing a media app switcher on Android Auto

Google

Android Auto beta users who run on version 17.0.162144 are reporting a new useful feature that allows you to switch between active media apps on the fly. You can do so with a simple swipe and switch between cards, which are the available media apps installed on your device.

The feature drops shortly after Google updated the media app switcher on Android 17 QPR1 Beta 3, making it more convenient and obvious. You can do so now in Android Auto, too.

Right now, the stable Android Auto doesn't support media app switching at all, so you have to open the desired app manually and hit play to appear on the home screen. There's no quick way to go back to the previous media app either.

As the feature is still only on the Android Auto beta channel, so it will take some time before it reaches the stable channel. By the looks of it, it won't take long, though.
