Modern car safety features have saved countless lives and keep getting better every year. They help prevent accidents, but sometimes, these features can be implemented in ways that might do more harm than good, which is why many owners wonder if it’s possible to turn them off and how to do it if so.
We already did an article explaining why these features exist, but we will now focus on how to turn them off most effectively in particular vehicles over a series of articles. Each manufacturer has their own take on how to integrate the technology, so in this series we will focus on learning how to turn off distracting features on the Alfa Romeo Junior Elettrica Veloce.
Lane assist is one of the most hated modern assistants, as it may actually lead to a crash if you aren't expecting it to intervene. Therefore, many people prefer to drive without relying on it. Alfa Romeo has actually made it fairly easy to perform that procedure. You just have to press the physical button with a car pictured on it in the panel of four buttons above the center display.
By pressing it, a shortcut menu appears on the screen and you just have to toggle it on or off if you want the lane assist feature as shown below in the video. It is a two-step process that is simple and straightforward, but must be done every time you start the vehicle.
The speed assist menu pops up by pressing the same physical button and the excessive speed warning system can be turned on or off again with a touch on the screen. Both settings for the assistants appear on the same screen and can be turned on/off together, which adds to the simplicity of the procedure.
For both assistants, as well as all others available, you can enter the "Functions" segment of the main menu and turn them on or off separately as well, but it's a more complicated procedure for the same act.
This is part of our new series, where we show you how to easily and successfully turn on or off assistant features of modern vehicles, which is something that becomes increasingly complicated due to modern regulations!
Imagine walking and wanting to turn but someone keeps pulling you the other way or wanting to stop but someone keeps pushing. Playing a game but someone keeps slowing the camera down...
