Kia EV9 Nightfall Edition is more than just a midnight makeover

Kia is turning up the style, and the speed with its new EV9 Nightfall Edition unveiled at the New York Auto Show alongside the EV4. This special version of the popular electric SUV isn't just about looks; it offers better performance too.

Kia EV9 Nightfall Edition is more than just a midnight makeover

The Nightfall Edition takes the already sleek EV9 Land model and adds a touch of darkness and sportiness. Gloss-black accents now adorn the front grille, skid plates, side mirrors, roof rails, and mirror caps, giving the vehicle a more assertive stance. Unique 20-inch alloy wheels further contribute to its distinctive appearance. Kia even offers a special paint color called Roadrider Brown, although initial images showcase the vehicle in a striking Glacial Pearl White.

Inside, the Nightfall Edition moves away from the standard model's gray and black interior, and goes for a full black color scheme. This includes the headliner and the seats, which now feature a more dynamic, performance-inspired stitching pattern. These changes create a sophisticated and sporty atmosphere for passengers.

But the real surprise comes from the Nightfall Edition's performance. Kia gave this model a Boost mode, previously exclusive to the higher-tier GT-Line EV9 or available as a $900 add-on for the Land trim. This electronic boost increases the dual-motor drivetrain's torque from 443 lb-ft to a more substantial 516 lb-ft.

The result is quicker acceleration, with Kia estimating a zero to 60 mph sprint in just 4.5 seconds, a noticeable improvement over the standard Land model's 5.7 seconds and even the Boost-equipped Land's 5.0 seconds. The standard dual-motor setup produces 283 kW (379 horsepower).

Kia hasn't yet announced the exact price difference between the EV9 Land and the Nightfall Edition, but the Land model starts at $69,900 in the US. To make the Nightfall Edition an attractive option, its premium will likely need to be carefully positioned below the $73,900 price tag of the EV9 GT-Line.
