Lucid partners up with Bolt to deploy 25,000 autonomous vehicles in Europe

Lucid

Lucid just announced a partnership with Bolt, the European ride-sharing service. Together they plan to deploy at least 25,000 autonomous Lucid vehicles across major European cities.

The strategic partnership would combine Lucid's software-defined vehicle platform with insights from Bolt's European data, operating infrastructure, and mobility expertise. The 25,000 Lucid vehicles Bolt plans to deploy in Europe represent a quarter of the 100,000 autonomous vehicles that it wants to have on its platform by 2035.

The companies will work together on an autonomous driving system vehicle platform that's designed for SAE Level 4 mobility. This platform will use NVIDIA's Hyperion production-ready autonomous vehicle reference architecture and development platform. Hyperion combines high-performance compute with a standardized sensor suite.

The partnership will be led by Bolt Autonomous Driving Solutions, the company's dedicated autonomous driving unit. Bolt's role will extend from product development to commercial operation. Bolt will define vehicle requirements as well as their software, safety, and rider experience parameters. It will also build the fleet infrastructure, operating systems, and city partnerships needed to deploy these vehicles at scale. Bolt fully intends to own and operate the fleet.

Lucid and Bolt say they will work together with autonomous driving technology partners, European regulators, and policy makers to support the safe, secure, and scalable introduction of autonomous mobility services in the region. There are unfortunately no other details about when we can expect this service to have the first cars on the road, or specifically which cities we can expect it to operate in.
