Mercedes-AMG announces prices for the new all-electric GT

Mercedes AMG

Mercedes-AMG opened order books for its all-electric performance flagship, the new AMG GT, with two distinct versions available at launch. The starting price for the base model, the AMG GT 55, starts from $181,231.05. Consumers who want the high-performance option must pay at least $230,024.03 for the AMG GT 63. These numbers place the new AMG out of reach for average buyers of electric cars, but the premium model costs roughly half as much as its latest elite competitor, the Ferrari Luce, while delivering better performance.

The high price tag directly reflects a complex, unique powertrain design engineered specifically for performance. Mercedes-AMG uses three innovative axial-flux electric motors - one electric motor on the front axle and two separate motors on the rear axle. Working together, the three units unleash a peak performance of up to 860 kW (1,169 horsepower). This massive electrical output allows the heavy sedan to accelerate from a standstill to 62 mph in 2.1 seconds, while reaching 124 mph takes only 6.4 seconds.

Straight-line acceleration is only part of the story, as the vehicle charges just as quickly as it moves. The high-performance battery configuration supports a maximum charging capacity of 600 kW. When connected to a compatible fast charger, the battery absorbs enough energy to add over 286 miles of driving range in 10 minutes. For a standard charging cycle that brings the battery from a 10% state of charge up to 80%, drivers only need to wait 11 minutes.

The manufacturer also added specific features to attract traditional driving enthusiasts who prefer old-school internal combustion engines. Selecting the AMGFORCE S+ drive mode activates a digital sound system that mimics the authentic, signature noise of a classic AMG V8 engine. The vehicle couples this audio track with physical vibrations through the seats and steering wheel. It even introduces slight physical pauses in power delivery to simulate the gear changes of an automatic transmission. A classic design of the digital driver display finishes the internal combustion illusion.

Buyers who want to maximize the performance of their electric AMG can choose from a long list of optional extras. These packages alter everything from suspension behavior to top speed limitations.

AMG DYNAMIC PLUS package ($6,203.68) adds active roll stabilization via the AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL suspension setup, the AMG RACE ENGINEER control system, a dedicated "Race" program, and telemetry logging software. AMG Driver's Package ($6,150.38) adjusts the electronic limiter to increase the maximum vehicle speed to 186 mph. It also introduces an advanced cooling system and carbon-ceramic composite brakes.

The $6,064.27 AEROKINETICS Venturi Flow option adds active underbody aerodynamic plates that adjust automatically to keep the vehicle stable at high speeds, and the AMG Aerodynamics Package Plus (at $5,297.52) is an active rear diffuser alongside special 20-inch light-alloy wheels designed to reduce wind resistance.

Apart from mechanical improvements, customers can personalize the look and sound of their premium EVs. These additions significantly increase the final checkout price of the four-door sports car.

The $7,165.60 AMG Performance Seat Package High-End offers maximum lateral body support for fast cornering. The Burmester High-End Surround Sound comes at $5,715.75 and delivers 4D audio through 30 speakers, with Dolby Atmos and 1,610 watts. Lightweight Roof in Carbon Design costs $5,576.34 and the $4,028.91 AMG Performance Seat Package Advanced makes the seats even more sporty with a lower seating position and improved side bolstering.

SKY CONTROL Panoramic Roof is a clever but costly option at $3,485.21 - it has nine segments with variable tint levels with illuminated AMG logo. If you want the fastest battery charging, the AMG Performance Charging Package at $2,788.17 unlocks 600 kW speeds with extra cooling hardware, and the Exterior Lighting Package adds Illuminated front star, grille accents, and LED light bands for $1,463.79.

Mercedes-AMG also offers two styling kits to alter the trim accents of the body. The AMG Night Package I costs $1,324.38, while the AMG Night Package II adds $766.75, both swapping standard trim for dark chrome and high-gloss black pieces. For the interior, real AMG Carbon Trim Elements can be added to the dashboard and doors for an extra $4,112.55.

Adding up all the options to the AMG GT 63 brings the total price to a rather shocking $290,167.31, but AMG is not a wallet-friendly brand. Unless you look at the new Ferrari Luce and its starting price of $644,000 - AMG wins this comparison hands down and comes out as a bargain. Orders are already open through local dealerships and online sales platforms.
