Nio's Alps sub-brand has its official name revealed through new spy shots

Nio

Nio is pretty confident in its upcoming sub-brand which has been codenamed Alps - and we've referred to it as such so far because the official name wasn't known. Soy shots recently caught the first Alps EV doing some testing on the streets of China and telling people it's better than Tesla's Model Y.

The brand is closer and closer to its official launch, and today a couple of new, camouflage-free pictures purportedly depicting its first car have been leaked in China, revealing the official name. It will be called Onvo in English, with the Chinese name being Ledao.

Both Onvo and Ledao have been registered trademarks of Nio for a while now, which can serve as further confirmation of the choices having been made. The first release by Onvo/Ledao will be the L60, as is revealed by the shot of the car's rear. The L60 is expected to arrive with two battery options (60 kWh and 90 kWh), with both single-motor and dual-motor powertrains on offer.

The price positioning of Onvo/Ledao will be right underneath Nio's offerings, and the brand is going to be targeting the family car market, according to previous rumors. Its price range? Between CNY 200,000 ($28,100) and CNY 300,000 ($42,100). They will unsurprisingly be able to use Nio's extensive battery swapping network.

Nio CEO William Li recently said the new brand will debut in the second quarter of this year (April to June), with the first product (this model right here) launching in the third quarter (July to September), and mass deliveries starting in the fourth quarter (October to December). Next year Onvo/Ledao will release another SUV, this one aimed at large families.

I don't think they can use Onvo name in Europe which already used by a brand of electronics manufacturer which produces things like microwave oven, blenders, airfryers, kettles, TVs and battery powered scooters. I think that is also trademarked....
