Ford Renault

Ford will be using Renault's electric platform to make two affordable EVs for the European market. These won't be straight-up rebrands of existing Renault models, but will share a lot of commonalities 'under the hood', while the design will be handled by Ford. Ford will also tune the driving dynamics to its liking.

These will be based on the Ampere platform that Renault developed, and will be made by Renault in France. The first of the two EVs in question is expected to arrive in showrooms in early 2028. It will be closely related to the Renault 5 and the spiritual successor of the Ford Fiesta. The second model will be related to the Renault 4.

Additionally, Ford and Renault are also looking into collaborating on light commercial vehicles.

Jim Farley, president and CEO of the Ford Motor Company, said:

The strategic partnership with Renault Group marks an important step for Ford and supports our strategy to build a highly efficient and fit-for-the future business in Europe. We will combine Renault Group’s industrial scale and EV assets with Ford’s iconic design and driving dynamics to create vehicles that are fun, capable, and distinctly Ford in spirit.

François Provost, Renault Group CEO, said:

Renault Group is proud to announce a new strategic cooperation with Ford, an iconic car manufacturer. This partnership shows the strength of our partnership know-how and competitiveness in Europe. In the long term, combining our strengths with Ford will make us more innovative and more responsive in a fast-changing European automotive market.
