Rivian published its Q2 deliveries report, and it beat its initial expectations of 9,000-11,000 vehicles. The company's facility in Normal, Illinois, produced 12,613 vehicles, and delivered 12,194 in the period.
While Rivian remains a somewhat small EV company, it certainly manages to improve on some of its supply chain bottlenecks. It's also refreshing to see a company under-promising and over-delivering.
Since it managed to beat its initial target, Rivian adjusted its delivery guidance for the full year 2026 from 62,000-67,000 units to 65,000-70,000 vehicles. A full financial report for Q2 2026 will be published on July 30, so stay tuned.
The launch of the more affordable Rivian R2 most certainly had an impact. However, the R2 sales will likely pick up next quarter as production increases and more versions arrive.
A spy shot from yesterday suggests that the LiDAR-equipped R2 is just around the corner, so there are probably buyers who are holding off until the LiDAR option appears in the configurator, which in turn will boost sales in Q3. That's, of course, in case Rivian launches the LiDAR option by then.
