Tesla adds charge port defrosting, battery age in range calculation with new update

Tesla

Tesla's latest software update, 2024.2.6, comes with some interesting new features. First off, charge port defrosting. This will happen automatically when you've added a Supercharger location as a destination in the navigation system, ensuring that when you arrive you won't have any nasty frosty surprises.

Speaking of going to a Supercharger during winter, if you arrive and your battery is too cold to DC fast charge, the car will display how long it will take the battery to warm up enough for DC charging to begin. There will still be waiting, but at least you'll know exactly how long.

Moving on, when calculating range estimates, Teslas will now take into account the battery age. The official changelog states: "Your estimated battery range now incorporates additional characteristics related to battery aging over time".

This has the potential to result in lower range estimates being displayed the older the battery is, but that should in theory make those estimates more accurate than before.

The new 2024.2.6 update is currently rolling out to a very small portion of Teslas out there in the wild. Tesla usually sends these out in waves, so it will be a few weeks before this one's trickled out everywhere.
