Tesla

DigiTimes Asia reports that Tesla has struck a huge deal with TSMC for the production of 4nm chips. The deal puts Tesla in the top 7 biggest TSMC clients.

Tesla chooses TSMC over Samsung for its 4nm chips

The chips in question will be used for Tesla's future self-driving hardware and volume production will begin in 2024 from TSMC's new fab in Arizona. That same fab is expected to also produce 3nm chips in 2026 and supply Apple with chips as well. Once complete, the Arizona facility will generate $10 billion in revenue for the company.

As a result, the gap between Samsung's chip making business and TSMC will grow bigger. The Korean company recently lost Qualcomm as a client for its flagship chipsets.

The chip might overheat in a mobile phone, but in a car there is quite a lot more room to make it properly cooled. Not to mention it can heat up the cabin :-D
