Cupra is giving its popular electric hatchback, the Born, a major makeover. This car has always been the stylish Spanish cousin to the Volkswagen ID.3. Both cars share the same bones, but the Born has a sportier vibe. The 2026 updates focus on fixing small annoyances and making the car look much more aggressive.
The front of the vehicle now features a "shark-nose" design. It looks pointier and more determined than the previous version. Cupra added new Matrix LED headlights that use a distinct triangular pattern. This style matches other new models from the brand, like the Tavascan. At the back, a long light bar stretches across the trunk. For the first time, the Cupra logo in the middle of that light bar actually glows.

To make the refreshed Born stick to the road better, Cupra added wider tires. The new 19-inch and 20-inch wheels now come with 235 mm wide rubber. This extra width provides more grip when turning corners. The ride might feel a bit firm on bumpy roads, but the car feels more planted and stable during spirited driving.
Inside the cabin, Cupra listened to what owners wanted. The old version used touch-sensitive pads on the steering wheel that were often frustrating to use. Those are gone, and in their place, you will find real, physical buttons. This should make it much easier to change the volume or set the cruise control without looking away from the road. This seemingly simple change makes a huge difference.

The screens inside the Born are also bigger and better. The previous model had a tiny 5.3-inch display for speed and battery info. That has grown into a much clearer 10.25-inch digital cluster. In the middle of the dashboard sits a 12.9-inch touchscreen. This screen runs on a new Android-based system, which makes it faster and easier to navigate than the older software.
Cupra also updated the materials used in the interior. The door panels feel softer to the touch, and the seats use recycled textiles. Some of these fabrics are actually made from plastic collected from the ocean. Passengers in the back seat will also be happier now - the updated Born finally includes rear air vents, a feature that was missing in the earlier models.

The way the new Cupra drives has changed, too. The car now includes a "one-pedal" driving mode, allowing the driver to slow down just by lifting their foot off the accelerator. The entry-level Born Plus has a 58 kWh battery. Even though its motor now delivers 140 kW (187 hp) instead of 150 kW, the car can travel up to 280 miles on a full charge.
For buyers who need to travel long distances, the Endurance model is the best choice. It gets a larger 79 kWh battery which pushes the range up to 373 miles. It also charges faster, reaching speeds of 185 kW. If you want more speed, the VZ version offers 240 kW (322 hp). This top-end model keeps the long 373 miles range but adds a lot more punch.

The new Cupra Born will arrive at European dealerships this summer. It faces more competition than ever, including from within its own family. Later this year, Cupra plans to launch a smaller electric car called the Raval.
