Charging Infrastructure UK

The UK government today announced that it's investing £1.6 billion in a new scheme that should expand the EV charging network in the country to around 300,000 public chargers by 2030 - that's almost five times the number of fuel pumps in the UK today.

Chargepoint operators will be legally required to meet rigorous standards, letting drivers pay by contactless, compare charging prices, and find chargepoints via apps. The rapid chargepoints will also have to be 99% reliable.

£500 million will be invested in high quality, competitively priced public chargepoints, including a £450 million fund that will "boost projects such as EV hubs and innovative on-street charging, so those without driveways don't miss out on cleaner transport".

An existing fund will support the rollout of at least 6,000 "high powered super-fast chargepoints across England's motorways by 2035", while "ambitious and innovative chargepoint operators are already committed to installing an additional 15,000 rapid chargepoints across England's entire road network" by 2025. That would be a quadrupling of the current numbers. Moreover, these same operators are going to bring 100,000 on-street chargers to England, also by 2025.
