VinFast dream goes on with new Lac Hong electric luxury cars

VinFast

Vietnamese EV manufacturer VinFast is moving into the world of ultra-luxury vehicles. The company has faced some serious trouble getting started in the United States, but it is not deterred and it is not slowing down. Instead, it is doubling down on its global dreams by launching an entirely new high-end brand called Lac Hong.

The new brand is part of a bigger plan to organize VinFast into three different levels of vehicles. Lac Hong will sit at the very top of that ladder. The company already showed off two flagship models: the Lac Hong 800S and the Lac Hong 900S.

According to the company, these EVs are designed to compete with the most expensive and famous luxury brands in the world. VinFast says these cars represent the culture and strength of Vietnam while offering the same quality as legendary European luxury makers. That's a bold statement, and given VinFast's past, we don't have high hopes for a revolution.

The Lac Hong 800S is a large SUV built for people who want a powerful and bold look. On the other side, the Lac Hong 900S is a classic sedan that focuses on elegance and tradition. Both of these electric cars look great, and both use a powerful three-motor system. This setup provides all-wheel drive and delivers a combined 460 kW of power - that is about 615 horsepower. This much power should make these heavy luxury vehicles move very quickly.

To make sure the ride is as smooth as possible, VinFast is using a "full active suspension system" for the first time. This technology helps the car stay level when it turns or brakes. It stops the car from leaning too much in corners or dipping its nose when the driver hits the brakes. The goal here is to make the passengers feel like they are floating on a cloud, regardless of how bumpy the road might be.

Inside the cabin, the Lac Hong 800S and 900S are filled with expensive materials. The seats are covered in soft Nappa leather, and the dashboard features rare wood trim. To add even more flair, VinFast included gold-plated accents throughout the interior. The 900S sedan even has a large grille with vertical slats and a winged ornament on the hood, similar to what you might see on a Rolls-Royce. It is clear that VinFast wants these EVs to look and feel like a million dollars. Will that be enough?

Technology is also a major focus for the Lac Hong brand. Passengers in the back of the 900S sedan can relax in "zero-gravity" executive seats. These seats are designed to distribute body weight evenly so you feel weightless. While riding in silence, passengers can even watch movies on built-in screens. The cars also feature automatic electric doors that open and close on their own and dual wireless chargers to keep smartphones ready to go.

The 800S will likely be more popular than the sedan because most buyers today prefer the extra space of an SUV. It sits on the same mechanical platform as the 900S, so it gets the same powerful motors and smooth suspension. However, it might skip the divider wall between the front and back seats that the sedan uses to give rear passengers more privacy.

VinFast has not shared every detail yet. We still do not know exactly how much these cars will cost or how far they can travel on a single charge. We also do not know how fast the batteries will charge. However, the company plans to start selling both models sometime in 2027.

VinFast has a history of moving very fast to release new models, so we're watching closely to see if these luxury EVs can truly challenge the world's best. Skepticism says there's no chance on Earth for VinFast to succeed in its bold quest, but there's no doubt the company will find some buyers. Will it be enough to keep the lights on? We'll know soon enough.
