WhatsApp is testing a new dedicated CarPlay app

WhatsApp is finally testing a standalone app for CarPlay users. The messaging service is now in its beta testing phase and is available via the TestFlight platform. Users with the new WhatsApp for CarPlay will be able to view chat lists, contact info, profile pictures, and call history.

Users can also start calls directly from their car screen, but sending messages is still only available via voice input due to safety reasons. The app also supports light and dark modes and can be configured to display a separate tab for unread chats.

This differs from the current WhatsApp experience in CarPlay, which only supports Siri interactions and relies on the digital assistant for reading and sending out messages without the ability to see any other aspects of the app.
