Xiaomi

Xiaomi's initial plans for the SU7 didn't include any overseas sales, at least until 2030, and instead, it wanted to focus on the domestic market. However, that might change very soon as the car manufacturer struck a deal with Hyperion Leasing, a Sinomach subsidiary specializing in car exports out of China.

Xiaomi is getting ready to export its SU7 overseas

The press release on Hyperion Leasing's website states that the two companies will join forces to bring the Xiaomi SU7 to key markets outside of China. Those markets remain unnamed, but we know that they operate in Russia. This could mean the SU7 will get an official import in Russia, among other countries.

This is a surprising development, given that Xiaomi struggles to keep up with demand. The second F2 manufacturing plant is still in the works, but once finished, it will hopefully help boost production further and cut delivery times.

Some believe the move is intended to increase profitability. Xiaomi currently loses around $5,000 per car sold in China, but if it can tap into foreign markets, the SU7 might be sold at a profit.

It's also unclear how the deal between the two companies is structured, but Hyperion Leasing is believed to buy vehicles from Xiaomi directly and be responsible for shipment, promotion and maintenance in the still-unknown foreign markets.

Xiaomi themselves stated this in their quarter 3 report. The loss has been coming down each quarter. This is typical in the electric car industry with most of the smaller Chinese EV brands losing money. Eventually many will go bust and there will be ...
