YangWang debuts the U9 - the supercar that nobody saw coming

BYD Yangwang

BYD marked the official start of its premium YangWang brand today with the launch of the U8 SUV. And while those bits were expected, the company also had a surprise up its sleeve - a second car that wasn't previously spotted and that goes by the name YangWang U9.

Despite the close name the U9 couldn't be any more different than the U8. While the two vehicles share the Yisifang platform with four motors, the U9 is a low-riding supercar.

The company says the YangWang U9 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just two seconds. That would put it in an exclusive club alongside the Hyper SSR, Tesla S Plaid and Lucid Air Sapphire.

Unfortunately, no further performance figures were presented as this announcement was even less detailed than the U8's. We didn't get to see the cars interior, nor did we learn how it will leverage the Yisifang platform to cut seconds off your lap time.

We have to admit - that’s a very nice surprise from BYD and YangWang. It clearly shows that the brand's portfolio will span across a large number of categories and we should be exciting more exciting news from it. Some pricing info, availability targets and interior pictures of these two models would be a great start.
