Zeekr

Zeekr took its first steps on North American soil, but the company decided to give the US and Canada a wide berth for the moment and opted for a debut in Mexico instead. The Geely-owned brand has launched its flagship 001 sedan and the versatile X SUV, delivering on its promise of global expansion.

Zeekr, despite its relative youth in the automotive world, has rapidly gained attention with its diverse lineup of six EV models. Its ambitious strategy has already seen successful launches in Europe, and the Mexican debut can be seen as a pivotal moment in its North American aspirations.

The 001, an elegant shooting brake, combines sporty aesthetics with the practicality of a hatchback. The Sport RWD version is priced at 988,000 Mexican pesos ($54,850); it promises a blend of performance with its 268-horsepower single electric motor and luxury thanks to its upmarket interior. On the other hand, the X SUV, starting at 799,000 Mexican pesos ($44,350) for the Premium RWD model, offers a more family-friendly option with its flexible interior.

Zeekr's move into Mexico leverages the existing infrastructure established by Geely Holding, its parent company. A pre-existing purchase agreement, valued at potentially billions of US dollars over the next few years, indicates Geely's commitment to propelling Zeekr's presence in the region.

To celebrate the debut, Zeekr hosted a launch event in Mexico, allowing potential customers to experience the 001 and X SUV firsthand. This hands-on approach is expected to resonate with a market that is increasingly embracing electric mobility.

While this launch undoubtedly brings Chinese-built EVs closer to the US market, it doesn't mean they will start pouring over the border. The 100% tariffs imposed on Chinese EV imports into the US present a serious challenge. Despite this, Zeekr's bold entry into Mexico is a paradigm shift in the North American EV landscape, with the potential to influence future market dynamics.

If the cars won't sell because they are too expensive, then they will lower the prices, so easy. BTW I don't understand why It should cost as much as in China.

Stupid or greedy? Zeekr 001 sells for 30k eur and Zeekr X sells for 22k EUR in China. I understand shipping cost maybe 3k usd per car, but Zeekr could easily sell it much much cheaper. Price it below Model Y and you can sell.
