Zeekr reveals the name of its new electric SUV: say hello to the 7X

Zeekr

Zeekr has just unveiled the name of its latest offering. The all-electric SUV, a sibling to the Zeekr 007 sedan will be called the 7X and will square off against the dominant Tesla Model Y.

Zeekr, which recently completed a successful IPO in New York, is recording impressive sales figures in China. The company delivered over 87,000 vehicles in the first half of this year. However, the brand's somewhat inconsistent naming causes quite a lot of customer confusion. The 7X, a 15.7 ft crossover, joins a somewhat confusing lineup that includes the 001 liftback, 009 minivan, X crossover, and the aforementioned 007 sedan.

The Zeekr 7X is uilt on Geely's PMA2+ platform, derived from the SEA modular architecture. The 7X is slightly larger than the Model Y in all dimensions. Its exterior, adhering to Zeekr's "Hidden Energy" design language, features a unique interactive screen stretching across the entire front of the vehicle.

The entry-level 7X will come equipped with Geely's "Golden Brick" LFP battery and an 800V architecture that enables you to recharge 311 miles of range in 15 minutes per official numbers. Higher-priced variants will offer a ternary NMC battery developed by CATL, potentially pushing the range beyond 435 miles. Powertrain options are expected to mirror those of the 007 sedan, offering both rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations.

The Zeekr 7X is set to hit the Chinese market later this year, with a price range of RMB 240,000 to RMB 350,000 (approximately $33,000 to just over $48,000). This positions it directly against competitors like the Tesla Model Y, Li Auto L6, Onvo L60, BYD Sea Lion 07, and a few others in the fast-growing Chinese EV market.

While the 7X is expected to make its way to Europe, it might need to adopt a new identity. We suspect BMW will not be happy with the resembalnce of the naming to its X7.
