Honda

Prices of the 2024 Honda Prologue have been finally unveiled. Starting at a reasonable $48,795 for the base model (including destination charge), this EV claims to offer a decent range of up to 296 miles. However, there's more to this story than meets the eye.

Honda's Prologue shares its platform with the Chevrolet Blazer EV, and while the Prologue might seem like an attractive proposition on paper, it's worth noting that its GM sibling, boasts an even longer EPA-rated range estimate of up to 324 miles per charge. So, is the Prologue's range truly the best in class, as Honda claims? We're not so sure.

The 2024 Honda Prologue comes in two primary configurations: the front-wheel-drive EX and the slightly pricier Touring trim, retailing at $48,795 and $53,095, respectively. Both models are equipped with a single 212-horsepower electric motor. For those seeking all-wheel drive, an option is available, but it comes at a cost. Upgrading to all-wheel drive increases the price to $51,795 for the EX and $56,095 for the Touring model, with a reduced range of 281 miles. The range-topping Elite trim, priced at $59,295, includes all-wheel drive and promises a 273 miles driving range.

While the Prologue undercuts the Chevrolet Blazer EV (by a significant margin), the trade-off seems to be in the range department. The Blazer EV RWD RS boasts a range of up to 324 miles, albeit at a higher price point of $61,790. So, it's a classic case of "you get what you pay for."

Despite these reservations, the 2024 Honda Prologue does come well-equipped. Standard features across all models include a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, 19-inch wheels, a wireless smartphone charging pad, and a Google-based infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM satellite radio. It's a solid package, but whether it's enough to overshadow the Prologue's range deficit remains to be seen.

Honda also offers various charging benefits to cater to the diverse needs of its customers. Options range from a $500 home charging installation credit coupled with a $100 credit for EVGo public chargers and 60.0 kWh of charging from Electrify America to a lower home charger installation credit of $250, which increases the EVGo credit to $300. For those who don't plan to install home charging, there's a choice of $750 in credit from EVGo and 60.0 kWh from Electrify America. It's a thoughtful touch that addresses the practical concerns of potential EV owners.
