2025 Chevrolet Silverado EV gets "Sidewinder" crab walk capability

Chevrolet

The electric Silverado is about to get a whole lot more maneuverable. Chevrolet announced that its 2025 Silverado EV RST will feature a new "Sidewinder" mode, allowing the electric truck to move diagonally at low speeds. This feature, similar to GMC's CrabWalk, will also be available to owners of the 2024 First Edition RST via an over-the-air update early next year.

Sidewinder mode is Chevrolet's take on the GMC Hummer EV's CrabWalk feature. The Silverado EV can move diagonally at speeds up to 20 mph. This proves particularly useful in navigating tight parking spaces or maneuvering through challenging off-road terrain.

You can activate this feature through the infotainment system by tapping the Controls icon, navigating to Rear Steering, and selecting Sidewinder mode. The system will then confirm activation with graphics on the screen and a message in the instrument cluster.

Sidewinder mode is a bit of a gimmick, and for most drivers it might be a bit of an overkill. But honestly, any help to navigate this behemoth through tight spaces is a good idea. Apart from the Sidewinder, the updated Silverado EV lineup gets a new LT trim. It starts at $75,195 and offers an impressive estimated range of up to 408 miles.

Chevrolet is expanding the battery options for the entire Silverado EV lineup. The RST will be available with Extended and Max Range batteries, while the fleet-oriented WT model will offer Standard, Extended, and Max Range options. The Max Range battery provides the WT trim with an impressive EPA-estimated range of 492 miles.
