Alfa Romeo Milano shown for the first time

Alfa Romeo

The first all-electric Alfa Romeo is only a couple of months away and the company decided it was about time to let the world have a taste of what it has cooked up. Dressed in bright red camouflage, the little electric crossover promises to deliver a lot of fun.

There aren’t as many automotive companies out there that evoke so much emotion as Alfa Romeo. Has the company ever built the best cars in the world? Absolutely not. Nor has it built the fastest or most luxurious cars. And yet it is one of the most revered brands in the auto industry and even though it's taking its sweet time bringing its first EV to the market we are all excited about it.

With the Milano’s debut scheduled for April 10, Alfa’s engineers are hard at work putting the final touches to the car’s handling. The same people responsible for the tuning of the 4C and 8C coupes as well as the Giulia GTA, are promising that Milano will deliver “outstanding dynamics.” The more direct steering coupled with better geometry should result in better response and provide a fun experience when cornering.

Looking at the photos we quickly realize the Milano is not a large vehicle. Based on the e-CMP platform from Stallantis, the electric Alfa will share plenty of components and dimensions with the Jeep Avenger. But unlike the Jeep, it’ll come with a twin-motor all-wheel-drive setup with around 240 hp total output. It’s no coincidence that this powertrain is found in the new Abarth 600e - those two are much closer related than the two brands would like to admit.

Just like in the Jeep Avenger, Fiat 600e, and Abarth 600e, responsibility for keeping the lights on belongs to a 54 kWh battery pack. Both Fiat and Jeep promise 249 miles of WLTP range and we should expect to see a slightly lower figure here since the Milano has two electric motors to power.

Alfa Romeo Milano - big name, big expectations, and a small car. Quite a combination but Alfa knows its reputation is riding on this EV and it is not willing to gamble its name away. We can expect a little electric hoot with plenty of power to keep things interesting and give the likes of the Mini Cooper SE a decent run for their money. Speaking of money - the starting price will hover around $50,000 making Milano’s debut quite tricky. The same money buys the 428 hp twin-motor Volvo EX30 or the utterly bonkers Smart #1 Brabus - both with bigger batteries and way more power.
