Taxi drivers and ride-hailing professionals have a common enemy: the clock. Every minute spent sitting at a charging station is a minute not making money. BYD, the giant Chinese automaker, thinks it has the answer to this problem. Through its new sub-brand Linghui, the company launched the e7 sedan. This car is obviously electric, but its real talent is in filling up its battery faster than most people can finish a cup of coffee.

The Linghui e7 is the very first model from the new brand. It starts at RMB 95,800, which is about $13,900. If you want the top-end version, the price goes up to RMB 115,800, or roughly $16,800. The price might be low, but the technology inside is quite advanced. BYD designed this car specifically for people who drive for a living. They want to make sure these electric cars spend more time on the road and less time plugged into a wall.

Speed is the main attraction here. The Linghui e7 uses BYD's second-generation Blade Battery coupled with "flash charging" technology. If the battery is at 10%, it can jump to 70% in only five minutes. If you have nine minutes to spare, the car can reach a 97% charge. Even in freezing weather as low as -22°F, the car only takes three extra minutes to charge. This is a huge deal for drivers in cold climates who usually see their EVs struggle when the temperature drops.

BYD is also thinking about its own image. Many of BYD's popular cars are used as taxis. This made some private buyers feel like they were driving a "cab" instead of a personal car. To fix this, BYD created Linghui as a dedicated commercial brand. The Linghui e7 uses the platform from the Sealion 06 but looks a little bit different. It follows a design style called "Innate Smile" - the front of the car has lines that curve upward, making the vehicle look like it is happy.

Size matters when you are carrying passengers and luggage all day. The Linghui e7 is 188.2 inches long, 74.8 inches wide, and 60.2 inches tall. It has a wheelbase of 111 inches, which means there is plenty of legroom in the back. Customers can choose between three different battery sizes. These offer driving ranges of 280 miles, 323 miles, or 342 miles on a full charge. For a city driver, these distances are more than enough for a full shift of work.

The company knows that professional drivers put a lot of wear and tear on their vehicles. Because of this, they built the Linghui e7 to be much tougher than a standard family car. It is designed to last for six years or 373,000 miles. To prove it could handle the stress, engineers drove it for 9,600 laps on rough road test tracks. That is double the testing a normal car receives. It also features a heat pump system that helps save energy during the winter.

Inside, the car is simple and clean. The interior uses a theme called "Jazz Black," which is mostly dark tones and straight lines. It does not have many distracting buttons. Instead, it uses a smart voice system. The car can recognize voices from four different areas of the cabin. You can talk to it normally, and it even understands if you interrupt it or keep talking after a command. This helps drivers keep their hands on the wheel and their eyes on the road.

To get people to buy the new Linghui e7, the brand is offering some interesting deals. If you buy the car for personal use, you get 12 months of free charging at specific stations. For those using it as a taxi, the brand will waive all charging service fees for a year. They also offer loans with zero down payments and terms as long as five years. Business owners can even get a three-year loan with no interest for up to RMB 80,000 ($11,750).

BYD is working hard to build the infrastructure for these cars, too. As of March 2026, the company has already set up 4,239 flash charging stations across China. They plan to have 20,000 of these stations ready by the end of the year. In March, BYD sold 295,639 electric cars, which was down about 20% from the year before. By launching specialized brands like Linghui, BYD hopes to win back more of the market.

The Linghui e7 is just the start. The company already has plans for more models like the e5, e9, and even a large van called the M9. These will all focus on business use, leaving BYD's main brand to focus on luxury and private owners.
