The Sealion 06 has appeared in a catalog released by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), a regulatory step before any vehicle can be sold in China. This catalog includes details for three distinct battery electric Sealion 06 models and three plug-in hybrid variants. Production of the BEV models will take place at BYD's factories in Xi'an and Changzhou, while the PHEV versions will be manufactured in Xi'an.

In terms of size, the Sealion 06 measures a substantial 189.4 inches long, 75.6 inches wide, and stands 65.9 inches tall. Its wheelbase, the distance between the front and rear wheels, is 111 inches. The weight of the new Sealion 06 ranges from 4,167 lb to 4,828 lb.

Performance-wise, all-electric versions of the Sealion 06 have a top speed of 115 mph, while the plug-in hybrid models can reach 112 mph. Buyers of the BEV Sealion 06 will have the choice between single-motor and dual-motor configurations. The single-motor options offer peak power outputs of either 170 kilowatts or 180 kilowatts. The dual-motor setup includes a 110-kilowatt motor at the front and a more powerful 180-kilowatt motor at the rear, promising brisk acceleration.

The Sealion 06 is joining the fast-growing Sealion lineup. The first model in this family was the all-electric Sealion 07 EV, which debuted in May 2024 as the first vehicle built on BYD's advanced e-Platform 3.0 Evo. Following the Sealion 07 EV, BYD launched the Sealion 05 DM-i in September 2024, featuring the company's latest DM 5.0 hybrid technology.
