BYD

BYD keeps expanding its electric vehicle lineup, and the upcoming Sealion 05 EV is the latest addition to its portfolio. This compact SUV is designed to compete in the fast-growing electric crossover market. The new model is part of the Sealion series, and it brings fresh features and competitive pricing to consumers. Based on information released by BYD, the Sealion 05 EV will ride on a brand-new platform, featuring a rear-driven powertrain and the company's advanced God's Eye smart driving system.

The Sealion 05 EV enters the market with two versions, offering different battery and motor options. The vehicle measures 178 inches long, 73.2 inches wide, and 64.2 inches tall, with a wheelbase of 107.1 inches. Weight varies between the two versions, with one weighing 3,924 lb and the other 3,682 lb. Both models can reach a top speed of 112 mph.

There are two power options for the Sealion 05 EV - both are single motors with peak power of either 140 kW or 160 kW. Battery options include a 50 kWh pack offering a range of 267 miles, and a 61 kWh pack providing 323 miles of range. The Sealion 05 EV will be priced around RMB 150,000 (just under $21,000), making it an attractive option for budget-conscious buyers looking to switch to electric cars.

BYD is also making huge progress in charging technology. The company has unveiled a 1,000 kW "Megawatt Flash Charger," capable of adding 249 miles of range in just five minutes. This system, part of BYD's Super e-Platform, uses a 1000V high-voltage system and a 10C charging rate. BYD plans to install over four thousand of these megawatt charging stations across China.

The new charging technology supports BYD's latest high-performance EVs - the Han L EV and Tang L EV. These vehicles use a 1500V silicon-carbide power module with high discharge rates and much-improved performance. The rear axle electric motor in these models can produce 580 kW of power, and it provides impressive acceleration, with the ability to reach 62 mph in approximately two seconds and a top speed exceeding 186 mph.

Fast charge is for long trips, not everyday charging. BYD batteries ship with 8 year warranty

The more electricity is pumped into the battery in such a short time frame, the earlier the battery will die. Same thing as for smartphones. I'm not buying it

Its neither lies nor madness, 900V platform was introduced in 2020. Its not shocking that we have 1000V arch in 2025. Is $35k for EVs with that platform not $18k
