Denza BYD

Large glass roof, huge center screen, 6 seats, and plenty of comfort - that sums up the upcoming Denza N8 SUV. Denza is a premium brand from BYD - it was originally a joint venture between Mercedes and BYD, but at this point the German automaker's stake is down to just 10%.

Denza N8 SUV is the upmarket version of BYD Tang, it follows in the footsteps of Denza X which was discontinued after weak sales performance. The other vehicles from the brand are the D9 MPV and the recently revealed N7 SUV. While those two were designed independently of the BYD model lineup, the N9 SUV is BYD Tang’s posh twin.

After the vehicle showed up at the MIIT listing last month, only the interior remained a mystery. Today Denza revealed that last piece of the puzzle showcasing the rather impressive cabin with an unquestionably upmarket feel. Large, sliding glass roof, 6-seat setup with captain chairs in the middle row, and folding tables add to the airline-like atmosphere.

The official debut date hasn’t been confirmed yet, but it cannot be too far. From the MIIT listing, we learned that the N8 SUV will come in two plug-in hybrid versions and two battery-powered EV trims. The single electric motor version has 230kW power output, while the AWD model comes with a serious 430kW of peak power - that’s 576hp and the promise of a lightning-fast SUV.

Denza N8 SUV is larger than its BYD Tang sibling, its wheelbase is 10mm longer, which isn’t a lot but an overall length of nearly 4.95 meters makes the N8 12cm longer than Tang. Most of that added length falls behind the rear axle where the N8 fits the third seating row.

Denza as a brand is growing its model lineup fast thanks to BYD's extensive production facility network. The D9 MPV has been on sale for a few months now, the N7 SUV pre-orders are already open and the company expects at least 6,000 sales this month alone with a target of 30,000 orders before the car goes official. Once the N8 SUV joins the lineup, Denza wants to be selling 20,000 vehicles every month - impressive growth, but this is BYD we are talking about and these guys are taking over China.
