Denza BYD

Denza N8 is an upcoming SUV from BYD's new brand focused on premium EVs. Denza N8 images and specifications have been revealed by the Chinese MIIT, which approves all new vehicles for sale in the country. Car manufacturers don’t like that idea as it spoils any secrets - but they don’t have much choice.

Denza N8 was the subject of the latest certification issued by the Chinese MIIT and so we learned the car will be available in four versions - 2 plug-in hybrids and two all-electric. The electric versions will come with either one or two electric motors, but the battery capacity has not been revealed.

The vehicle with one electric motor has 230kW peak power and is front-wheel drive while the dual-motor model adds a 200kW motor for combined 430kW peak output and all-wheel drive setup. Both versions have a 190 km/h top speed.

At 4.94 meters in length, Denza N8 is just 3 cm longer than the Audi Q8 e-tron and 7 cm longer than the Mercedes EQE SUV. Now it has been included in the MIIT catalog, we can expect to see it launched very soon, most likely at next week’s Shanghai Auto Show.

Denza has an interesting history, it was first established in 2011 as a joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz as a way for the German brand to get a foothold in the Chinese market. BYD increased its stake in the company to 90 percent last year and introduced Denza N9 MPV.

Denza N8 joins the N9 MPV and N7 electric crossover. All three vehicles show a departure from Denza’s previous strategy and a bold move into the premium vehicle market. With three vehicles spanning the most popular categories, BYD will only increase its leading position as an electric vehicle market leader.
