BYD to debut eight new models at Goodwood 2026

BYD

The historic Goodwood Festival of Speed usually celebrates classic gasoline engines, but Chinese automaker BYD is changing the narrative for 2026. The company is building its largest exhibition stand in the history of the event to showcase its expanding lineup of electric cars and plug-in hybrids. Instead of just showing off older models, BYD Group is bringing eight vehicle debuts to the United Kingdom, spanning three distinct brands.

A highlight of the festival is the official United Kingdom launch of Denza, BYD's premium sub-brand. Denza is using the event to reveal two brand-new electric cars to the world for the first time: the Z Coupe and the Z Racing. Both models evolve the company's new design language, which first appeared on the Z Spider model at the Beijing Auto Show earlier this year. The sleek Z9GT wagon will be the very first Denza model to go on sale for British buyers.

The Denza Z Coupe has a powerful three-motor electric setup that it inherits from the Spider model, allowing the car to reach a spectacular top speed of 217 mph. Even though it drives like a track missile, designers gave it a practical two-plus-two seating layout and a large trunk, apparently believing owners will use it for high-speed grocery shopping. For drivers who want an even more aggressive look, the Z Racing version adds a dramatic aerodynamic package made entirely of carbon fiber.

Denza is also expanding into large luxury vehicles with the D9 DM-i and the BAO 5 SUV. The D9 DM-i is a massive seven-seat passenger van designed to feel like a first-class airport lounge. All seven seats feature heating and ventilation, while the middle-row seats can recline up to 152 degrees and offer built-in massage functions. The D9 uses a dual-motor hybrid system producing 353 horsepower, offering 130 miles of pure electric range on the WLTP cycle, and still has 15.2 ft³ of cargo space even when full of passengers. The rugged BAO 5 SUV makes its first European appearance, combining three electric motors with a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine for heavy-duty off-roading.

The main BYD brand is targeting everyday buyers with smaller, highly practical options. The new Dolphin G DM-i makes its British debut after its reveal in Berlin. This vehicle competes in the small supermini category but offers a unique plug-in hybrid powertrain that rivals cannot match. BYD claims this clever powertrain gives the small hatchback a total driving range of 646 miles.

Truck enthusiasts will also see something new as BYD introduces its very first pickup option to Europe. The BYD Shark is a mid-size truck with an off-road hybrid setup that generates 435 horsepower. The Shark can accelerate from zero to 62 mph in 5.7 seconds, which is remarkably fast for a utility vehicle. It can travel 55 miles on pure electricity before the gasoline engine turns on, and it can tow loads up to 5,512 lb.

For pure performance fans, BYD's ultimate luxury brand, Yangwang, is bound to turn heads. The brand is displaying the U9 Xtreme, which currently holds the title of the fastest production car in the world. The vehicle already proved its speed by running a 6-minute and 59.157-second lap at the famous Nurburgring racetrack in Germany. It also set an official record for production vehicles by reaching a top speed of 308 mph. Its presence at the festival confirms that European buyers can finally purchase this high-end electric vehicle.

Yangwang is adding two more high-end models to its Goodwood exhibition. The first is the U8L, a massive luxury SUV that can actually float through deep water - perfect for drivers whose daily commute includes an unexpected river crossing. The second is the U7 luxury executive sedan. The U7 gives buyers a choice between fully electric or plug-in hybrid setups. The sedan has four independent electric motors, all-wheel steering, and an advanced active suspension system called DiSus-Z.

According to Stella Li, the Executive Vice President of BYD, this huge presentation is a statement of intent rather than a simple vehicle display. The company wants to show the world that high performance, luxury design, and environmental sustainability can work together. Visitors who explore the giant booth can interact with advanced robots, try out professional driving simulators, visit a dedicated technology zone, or watch vehicles handle a special off-road course.
