Cybertruck’s VIN decoder reveals 9,000 lb triple motor version

Yet more details on the Tesla Cybertruck were revealed today. The polarizing, wedge-shaped vehicle's VIN documents surfaces at NHTSA's website.

The documents, spotted by a sharp-eyed user from the Cybertruck Owners Club forum, confirm the existence of a version with three electric motors. Secondly, this futuristic truck will tip the scales at over 9,000 lb. There's no mistake - that's over 4 metric tons.

In the world of VINs, digits 6 and 8 are the celebrities. Digit 6 tells us about the vehicle’s gross weight. The intriguing 'G' tells us this vehicle hovers between 8,001 lb and 9,000 lb, while the heavyweight 'H' signifies the 9,001 lb to 10,000 lb category. Meanwhile, digit 8 is the tattletale for the motor and drive unit. If it's stamped 'D', you're looking at a Dual Motor Standard, while 'E' hints at the robust Tri-Motor Performance.

The Cybertruck will soon grace driveways and Instagram feeds alike. As Mr. Musk himself announced, the Tesla Cybertruck is set for a grand debut with deliveries starting from November 30. It took four years after the world first glimpsed this rhomboid revelation and everyone from EV enthusiasts to skeptical bystanders is waiting to witness the final product.

Some whispers had hinted at a Quad-Motor setup for the Cybertruck, but that's not happening for the time being. The Cybertruck's unique body is crafted from Ultra-Hard 30X Cold-Rolled stainless steel, the same material SpaceX is using for the Starship spacecraft.

When it comes to weight, let’s not feign shock. Electric pickups nowadays seem to be indulging a tad too much at the metaphorical buffet. We speculate that the Dual-Motor Cybertruck will flirt with the 8-9,000 lbs range, while its Tri-Motor sibling will likely inch closer to the 10,000 lbs mark. But, depending on battery and wheel choices, this weight might move a bit.

Cybertruck’s VIN revealed - it will be heavy and will have three motors

Dimension-wise, anticipate the Cybertruck to stretch taller and longer than the Rivian R1T, yet not flaunting as much width. Comparing it to the GMC Hummer EV, the Cybertruck might appear modest, but it's likely to rival the dimensions of the Ford F-150 Lightning. Dubbed by some as the new "Look at me!" truck, it’s poised to turn heads, whether at the grocery store or a swanky downtown locale.
