DS

DS started teasing its next EV earlier this month, and now it's finally revealing the name and also giving us a peek inside.

The next DS EV will be called N°8. In case you didn't know, "N°" is French for "No.", so this is the DS Numéro 8, or in English the DS No.8. In the image below you can see the middle part of its rear, revealing the very unnecessary use of the word "Automobiles" next to DS, and the way the car's name will be represented. There's also the smallest glimpse at the LED taillights.

But wait, there's more! DS is showing the interior of the upcoming EV in two images, letting us peek through both during the daytime and the nighttime. Very prominent is the Electra 3D by Focal branding for the speaker system, a very wide but not very tall center infotainment touchscreen, and what look like real buttons underneath it for a few functions, though changing the temperature is still controlled via touchscreen because that's worked so well so far and no one's ever complained about the ergonomics of it on the internet.

There's a start-stop button to the left of the center screen in what looks like a rather awkward position, and a second screen behind the steering wheel which, in this image, shows the current speed and remaining range - which is 466 miles since the battery is fully charged and that's going to be the N°8's maximum range, as revealed by the previous teaser.

There are a lot of metallic elements and there's a lot of ambient lighting, and the combination does make for a very upscale, but not tacky look, for the most part, though we wouldn't necessarily call this "luxury" even though DS would like us to.

For context, DS is a spinoff of Citroen and was supposed to be its higher-end sibling and it does deliver on that here, but Stellantis definitely still has too many brands and doesn't seem to know what to do with a lot of them - finding a niche for each badge is made extra difficult by them all using the same EV platforms and releasing the same endlessly rebranded models in order to cut costs.

DS promises it will "introduce" the N°8 in a couple of weeks, so stay tuned. In case you were wondering, there will be more models, and the number following "N°" will "correspond to the size and segment" of each car. The N°8 is the future flagship of the brand.
