Tesla

Tesla CEO Elon Musk is once again trying to ignite excitement for the forever-awaited next-generation Roadster. Known for his bold statements and outlandish promises, this time, he envisions a groundbreaking demonstration in 2025 that will showcase the electric sports car's ability to "fly." Speaking at the recent Tesla-focused X Takeover event, Musk reiterated his ambitious timeline for the Roadster, stating that low-volume production is expected to begin in 2025.

When Tesla first unveiled the Roadster concept in 2017, it boasted impressive performance figures, including a 0 to 60 mph time of 1.9 seconds and a top speed exceeding 250 mph. However, Musk has since raised the stakes, claiming the Roadster will be equipped with 10 SpaceX-developed rocket thrusters, enabling it to outperform competitors in acceleration and braking and even achieve short periods of hovering.

While these claims are certainly far-fetched, Musk has assured that the Roadster will be "something special," the result of a joint effort between Tesla and SpaceX that combines rocket engineering with electric vehicle technology. He even described it as "alien technology" that will create a truly extraordinary vehicle.

Musk's enthusiasm for the Roadster was evident during the event, as he recounted a conversation with his friend Peter Thiel, who questioned the absence of flying cars. Musk's response? "Wait for it, it's coming." Sure, we'll wait - but the questions just keep piling on. An electric car with rocket thrusters? How will that be made road-legal? Does it mean the Roadster will be classed as a hybrid vehicle, a first for Tesla? How do you safely store rocket fuel in a car, and how much of it? Will it be enough just for one short run? The list goes on and every potential answer produces two more questions. We'll just have to wait and see with a bag of salt ready.

The CEO's confidence in the Roadster's impact was further underscored by his prediction that the demo would be "mind-blowing," potentially surpassing any other demonstration ever witnessed. However, he did not address the reasons behind the significant delay in bringing the car to market, which, if the 2025 timeline holds, would mark eight years since its initial unveiling.
