Elon Musk teases Cybertruck and reveals more details

Tesla

The Tesla Cybertruck has again found itself under the spotlight. Tesla CEO Elon Musk used the latest episode on the "The Joe Rogan Experience" podcast to shed some light on this long-awaited electric pickup.

Notably, manufacturing challenges remain formidable, but Tesla still projects to produce about 200,000 Cybertrucks annually when they hit peak production. This, interestingly, is a bit lower than Musk's past optimistic estimate of up to 500,000 units a year and the most recent prediction of 250,000 in the company's latest earnings.

When quizzed about the Cybertruck's weight Musk mentioned figures hovering around 6,000 lb to 7,000 lb, depending on the version. That's roughly equivalent to the Ford F-250, a heavy-duty truck. Official sources like the NHTSA's 2024 Model Year VIN Decoder seem to roughly affirm this detail.

The true kicker, however, lies in the Cybertruck's apparent acceleration. Even with its weight, it is targeting a 0-60 mph time of under 3 seconds, specifically when in the 'Beast Mode'. As a point of reference, the Rivian R1T takes 4s, so, if Tesla pulls this off, it will steal its crown.

When you put Musk and Rogan into one room, you can’t expect a boring talk show. There was a rather theatrical demonstration on the podcast. In a spur-of-the-moment challenge, Rogan attempted to test the Cybertruck's resilience with a broadside arrow shot from a 95-lb compound bow. A few sparks, a minor dent, and a destroyed arrow are all that came out of it. Musk nonchalantly pointed out that while the Cybertruck might boast bulletproof door panels, the windows wouldn’t share that invincibility. However, for those wanting that added security, bulletproof windows will be an option, albeit with some caveats – they'll be chunky, weighty, and stationary.

This isn't the first time the Cybertruck's durability has been under scrutiny. A recent sighting revealed one with what looked like bullet impacts. Musk, always the showman, claimed to have unloaded an entire Tommy gun clip into that particular vehicle.

Looking ahead, as the countdown to the official Cybertruck delivery event narrows to a month, enthusiasts and skeptics alike are on the edge of their seats, awaiting full specifications and pricing details. With Musk's typical mix of disclosures and teases, one can only expect more surprises.
