First look at all-electric Range Rover being tested in Sweden

Range Rover

Iconic British off-roading brand Range Rover has dropped the veil on its first fully-electric SUV. While Land Rover has been steadily introducing hybrid models within its lineup, the new Range Rover EV is a clean-sheet design, aiming to deliver the signature off-road prowess of its siblings and the cutting-edge tech EVs are known for.

Range Rover chose not to deliver teasers or cryptic messages. Instead it opted to showcase its EV undertaking grueling Arctic Circle tests, looking indistinguishable from its regular gas-powered cousins.

As it turns out, under the classic Range Rover silhouette lies a technological revolution. Land Rover's engineers have developed an innovative traction control system for this EV. This system allows for torque adjustments at each wheel within milliseconds rather than taking a tenth of a second. This promises a new level of agility and driver control in any condition.

While specifics about the new electric heart remain under wraps, Range Rover is adamant about providing V8-like performance from its electric motors. It's backing those up with an 800-volt system, often the mark of genuinely rapid EVs.

The British automaker also does not forget its adventurous heritage. The Range Rover EV, built on a bespoke platform in the UK, is set to outshine the competition in classic Land Rover disciplines like towing and wading through water.
