GAC Aion just announced its premium brand Hyper along with its first car - meet the beastly Hyper SSR. It's a fully-electric supercar that challenges Tesla's Roadster by doing 0-100 km/h in just 1.9 seconds.

That's for the Ultimate tier, the standard version clocks 100 km/h at 2.3 seconds, which is still pretty darn fast. This is thanks to GAC Aion's in-house electric motors capable of 1,225hp maximum output. The firm says that's 1.5 times as much as an average Formula 1 car, though that number seems exaggerated. Torque is rated at a mind-boggling 12,000Nm and the full pressing the throttle digs your body inside the comfortable seats at 1.7G.

The vehicle is based on a 900-volt platform and features a couple of SiC chips for improving efficiency and reducing power consumption.

The body is primarily made of carbon fiber and derivatives, reducing the weight by 20% compared to steel. The carbon fiber is advertised to be 2.5 times stronger than steel too. The butterfly doors open and close automatically after the driver firmly presses the brake pedal.

The automaker kicks off pre-orders, asking CNY 1.286 million ($184,000) for the standard trim and CNY 1.686 million ($241,000) for the Ultimate option, which sounds like peanuts considering the kind of car we are talking about. GAC Aion says production will kick off in October with first deliveries arriving that same month.
