GM

During a media call, GM's CEO Mary Barra announced that it's canceling its further efforts in the Cruise Robotaxi service. The company poured $10 billion into the startup but doesn't see any future for the service.

GM axes its Cruise Robotaxi branch

Mary Barra cites increasing investment costs in tough financial times as well as growing competition as key hurdles. Additionally, GM's Cruise Robotaxi service was shut down in California after numerous accidents in 2023.

Still, GM says the talent and technological advancements achieved by the Cruise arm won't go to waste. The automaker will use it to develop "personal autonomy", aiming at Level 3 and Level 4 autonomous driving in GM's vehicles. In short, the company will use the expertise to continue its development of the Super Cruise ADAS.

GM and Cruise haven't worked out the details just yet, but GM may fully acquire Cruise in order to keep the talent and tech on board.
