GM Online services Announcement

Today GM has unveiled the next step in its electrification journey. It's not a car, though. Not even a show car. It's not a teaser of an upcoming EV either. Instead, we're talking about an online platform which aims to educate and inform consumers and potential buyers on the benefits of EVs.

It's called EV Live, it's about EVs, and it's... live (excuse the pun, it was too hard to resist). It lets you interact one-on-one with GM's EV specialists and learn everything you need to know about EVs for free.

You can ask any EV related questions through voice or text, and the specialists will reply. You'll hear and see them, while they will hear, but not see you. They will also give virtual tours of the EV Live studio, which has real EVs in it and "dynamic displays of home charging, public charging, battery technology, sustainability, commercial applications, EV apps and more". The specialists can also guide you through the home charging installation process and refer you to certified installers.

The aim, obviously, is to accelerate EV adoption - although production capacity seems to be more of a hindrance to that at the moment than lack of information, but hey - more information never hurt anyone, right?

You can use EV Live from any mobile device or computer, and the EV specialists are available for one-on-one talks Monday through Thursday from 9 AM to midnight ET, Fridays from 9 AM to 9 PM ET, and weekends from 11 AM to 7 PM ET.

You can schedule a live tour with a specialist, or start an on-demand one if a specialist is available on the spot. For now it's all one-on-one, but later this year group sessions will also be offered, as will prerecorded ones.

Celebrating the launch, Hoss Hassani, GM's vice president of the EV ecosystem, said:

Addressing common misconceptions about EVs will accelerate widespread EV adoption. We saw a need for accessible, credible and engaging sources of information to empower consumers to adopt EVs and appreciate their many benefits. With EV Live, we’re making it easier to learn about the EV experience. Whether you're curious or skeptical, an experienced owner or brand new to EVs, the experts at EV Live are here to help. EV Live lets us meet people where they are and have a real conversation about electrification. We’re selling the EV experience, rather than specific EVs.

G.M., as well as other American companies need to lobby the U.S. government to up the amount of EV's sold to qualify for the federal tax incentive.
