Hyundai joins Tesla's NACS charging standard, new models will have it next year

Tesla's North American Charging Standard (NACS) is soon going to actually be the North American Charging Standard - see what we did there? More and more car brands have been announcing the adoption of NACS for future models over the past few months, and today it was Hyundai's turn.

Starting in the fourth quarter of next year (between October and December), new Hyundai cars sold in the US will come with the NACS charging port. Those sold in Canada will follow in the first half of 2025. Also in 2025, specifically from the first quarter of that year (January to March), existing Hyundai EVs with CCS ports will be offered an adapter for NACS. Hyundai will also make adapters available to charge NACS-equipped vehicles at CCS chargers.

With its adoption of the NACS port, Hyundai gains access to Tesla's 12,000+ Superchargers in North America (across the US, Canada, and Mexico). Hyundai says this will effectively double the size of the DC fast charging network available to its customers.

Hyundai previously announced it's partnering with six of the world's leading global automakers (BMW, GM, Honda, Kia, Mercedes, and Stellantis) to also develop a new, high-powered North American charging network with at least 30,000 chargers. The first US stations that will be part of this rollout are scheduled to open in the summer of 2024.
