Leapmotor

Leapmotor has officially announced a new, high-performance version of its C10 electric SUV: the C10 Design 81.9 kWh AWD. Stellantis, the European distributor of Leapmotor, claims this new model is a direct response to a growing segment of buyers who want their electric cars to deliver serious power and all-weather confidence without sacrificing the fast-charging convenience they expect.

Set for a public debut at the Zurich Auto Show this October, the new all-wheel-drive C10 blends the practicality of an SUV with the acceleration of a sports car. The company is clearly listening to market feedback. Early electric cars were often a story of compromises - you could have range, or you could have performance, but rarely both. As technology has matured, automakers are now expected to deliver on all fronts. Leapmotor's answer is a vehicle built on a modern, high-voltage platform designed to handle more power and charge more quickly.

The new C10 AWD is powered by a dual-motor system that delivers 585 horsepower. In the world of family-friendly electric cars, that's a big number. This power allows the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 4 seconds flat.

While raw speed is one thing, Leapmotor claims its intelligent all-wheel-drive system provides practical benefits. The system is designed to continuously monitor traction and distribute power between the front and rear wheels, ensuring stability on slick pavement, snowy roads, or even gravel paths. It's the kind of performance that offers both thrills on a clear day and peace of mind when the weather turns sour.

A key piece of technology enabling this performance is the vehicle's 800-volt electrical architecture. At the moment, most EVs are built on 400V systems, but the industry is quickly moving toward the 800V standard. This higher voltage allows for faster charging speeds because it can accept more power from a DC fast charger.

For the C10 AWD owner, this means less time spent waiting. Leapmotor claims the vehicle can charge its battery from 30% to 80% in just 22 minutes at a compatible station. This brings charging times closer to a typical stop for fuel and a snack, reducing a major pain point for many potential EV buyers.

The battery itself is an LFP unit with a capacity of 81.9 kWh. LFP batteries are becoming increasingly popular in electric cars for their durability and thermal stability. Leapmotor also highlights the battery's performance in cold weather, claiming its system delivers efficient charging even in low temperatures without needing a lengthy preheating cycle.

Leapmotor has only released the impressive performance figures, but key details are still missing. The company has not yet announced the official driving range, pricing, or specific market availability for the C10 AWD - these details will likely be revealed during the formal unveiling in Zurich.
