Ferrari's first EV is already testing in the wild, ahead of 2025 debut

Ferrari

Synonymous with roaring V8s and V12s, Ferrari is charging into the future with its first all-electric vehicle. While official details are scarce, prototype mules have been spotted prowling the streets disguised as Maseratis, hinting at a possible SUV-like silhouette.

The Prancing Horse's CEO, Benedetto Vigna, confirmed the EV will debut late next year, with deliveries starting in 2026. While Vigna remained tight-lipped on specifics, he promised the EV will deliver the exhilarating driving experience Ferrari is renowned for, aiming to attract both traditional Ferrari aficionados and tech-savvy newcomers.

Ferrari has already put the prototype through its paces, accumulating thousands of miles on the road. Vigna emphasized the rigorous testing process, stating that their test drivers, who are familiar with the brand's performance benchmarks, have provided valuable feedback.

Vigna dismissed rumors of a half-million-dollar price tag as speculation, stating the price will be finalized closer to the launch. The EV will roll off the production line in Ferrari's new E-building in Maranello, which is set to become a hub for all powertrains, including high-voltage batteries and electric motors for future models.

While Ferrari embraces electrification, Vigna assured that internal combustion and hybrid models will remain in the stable, with the sales mix dictated by customer demand rather than production targets.

Ferrari's foray into electric cars is a significant shift for the iconic brand. Will it be able to retain its performance pedigree while adapting to a new era of powertrains? We'll have the answer to this question in just over a year.
