In April Mazda announced the EZ-6 for the Chinese market, an EV co-developed with Chongqing Changan Automobile through the Changan Mazda company, a joint venture between Mazda and Changan.
Today, Mazda has confirmed that the EZ-6 is going to be its first "truly global" EV, so we should expect it to launch across the world in the coming months. In fact, the global launch is scheduled for this fall.
After China, the EZ-6 will make its way to Europe. Mazda says the EZ-6, which is supposed to occupy the space of the ICE Mazda 6 in its portfolio, surpasses that model in terms of "Jinba-ittai" (a Japanese phrase which roughly translates as "car and driver as one") feeling.
Experts from Mazda's R&D center in Europe have completed dynamic performance tuning and validation of the EZ-6 at the Chongqing Automobile Testing Grounds, the highest-spec auto test field in China.
The Mazda EZ-6 comes with a 14.6-inch central infotainment screen, another instrument cluster screen, "Level 2.5 autonomous driving assistance", four HD panoramic cameras, twelve ultrasonic radars, and a 7nm Qualcomm SA8155P chip. It will support autonomous parking, remote parking, remote intelligent parking, and trace-back parking.
The EZ-6's range is estimated at 373 miles CLTC, but as always you should keep in mind that testing regimen is by far the most optimistic. The WLTP comes next, and the EPA is the most realistic.
Curious what Mazda's plan is for the companion app to support all those remote features. The current MyMazda app is awful.
