Mercedes EQE Battery EV

Mercedes-Benz has updated its online configurator for the EQE. All EQE models are supposed to share the same 90.6 kWH battery pack but the entry models EQE 300 and EQE 350 now show with the smaller capacity of 89kWh.

The reason for this change has not been confirmed by Mercedes. It could be down to fact that the new battery packs come from a different supplier or it could be just a different software and the buffer on those batteries was increased. Manufacturers do that for many reasons, one of them is to ensure better capacity retention over time. As the battery slowly degrades the buffer can then be minimized to account for the loss of capacity.

The entry level EQE 300 starts at €63,427 (in Germany and includes environmental bonus) and it comes with a 245 hp motor that powers the rear wheels. Quoted range is 623 km in a WLTP cycle. The next model now is is the Mercedes EQE 350 with 292 hp and slightly higher torque of 550 Nm, the range remains at 623 km. It starts at €67,325 including the grants in Germany.

The EQE 350+ and AMG 53 4MATIC+ are no longer available in the configurator, it looks like the company has at least temporary dropped them from the lineup.

With the “+” models missing the EQE 350 4MATIC is the next model up starting at €70,388.50 and offering twin-motor setup with 292 hp. Interestingly this is the exact same power figure as in the EQE 350 but the torque is much higher at 765 Nm. It means the motors in this model are most likely restricted because the EQE 500 4MATIC uses the same setup but comes with 408 hp and 858 Nm of torque. These two have very similar range with 590 km and 580 km respectively. The latter starts at €87,752.10 and the huge price increase is due to the fact that it doesn’t qualify for any government grants.

The Final two models are AMG EQE 43 4MATIC and AMG EQE 53 4MATIC+ which is the only one to retain the “+”. Neither of the two qualifies for grants and prices start at €103,827.50 and €109,777.50 respectively. The more powerful AMG EQE 53 has 625 hp but comes with 525 km range while the AMG EQE 43 has 476 hp and 533 km of range. All range figures are per the WLTP cycle.

As things stand Mercedes has settled on six versions for the EQE and all are available for orders from now. None of the cars ordered now will come with LTE modules which will affect the “me connect” services and no emergency calls can be made from the car using its infotainment. Mercedes will let its customers know when this situation changes and the fix will need a quick visit to the service.

All new models are now in the database so you are free to do your own comparisons. And below is the link to the Mercedes configurator on the German site if you've decided one of them is worth your hard earned cash.
