BYD

BYD is preparing to launch its latest offering in the Chinese electric car market: the Qin L EV. This all-electric sedan joins the very popular Qin family, but the Qin L EV is designed to appeal specifically to a younger demographic that wants a slightly more stylish electric vehicle.

BYD teased the upcoming Qin L EV on social media, and the announcement followed the successful launch of the hybrid Qin L DM-i earlier this year. The Qin family has proven to be a bestseller for BYD, with over 732,252 units sold in 2024 alone. This is a big chunk of the company's NEV sales, proving the popularity of the Qin models.

The Qin L EV has already received regulatory approval for sale in China, suggesting it is ready for its official release. Information filed with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) reveals key details about the vehicle - the electric sedan measures 185.8 inches in length, 74 inches in width, and 58.9 inches in height, with a wheelbase of 111 inches. This makes the hybrid Qin L DM-i slightly longer at 190.2 inches, but the hybrid version has a shorter wheelbase at 109.8 inches. The Qin L EV weighs in at 3,682 lb.

Powering the Qin L EV is an electric motor capable of generating a maximum power output of 110 kW. The vehicle's top speed is listed at 99 mph. These numbers suggest a focus on efficiency and urban driving, aligning well with the target demographic.

Specific battery details are not yet available, but the hybrid Qin L DM-i offers an impressive range of up to 1,305 miles when combining the electric motor with the gasoline engine. The battery-powered version won't come anywhere near that number, but knowing how optimistic the CLTC standard is, we can expect to see at least 311 miles range.

Pricing details for the Qin L EV remain undisclosed. The hybrid Qin L DM-i is available in five different trims, with prices ranging from RMB 99,800 ($13,790) to RMB 139,800 ($19,280). This pricing structure provides a possible benchmark for the all-electric version. The Qin L EV enters a competitive market, but BYD's established reputation and the popularity of the Qin family give the new EV a solid foundation for success.
