Tesla

The people over at Munro Live have given an update on the ongoing disassembly of Tesla's 4680 battery pack, saying that progress is very slow.

The team is trying to teardown the Tesla Model Y's 4680 battery pack, which is made in Texas. The first part is opening the steel cover of the battery block. Inside the 4680-type cells are glued together with the enclosure with an extremely tough pink polyurethane.

Tearing apart a high-voltage battery is hard and dangerous work. According to Munro Live's Cory Steuben, the repairability of the Tesla 4680 battery pack is essentially zero. But on one hand, the battery pack is expected to last the life of the car, and on the other, it may be possible for the manufacturer to repair it using a superior mechanical, or chemical solution.

"Life of the vehicle" is the biggest lie in the industry. The customer decides what the life of the vehicle is. The life of my grandfather's 1957 Corvette is at least 65 years. Is this battery going to last 65 years?
