As of right now, you can't watch YouTube videos while using CarPlay on your infotainment screen. It's just a way to limit distractions while on the road. However, MacRumors found evidence that the company will soon enable the feature on CarPlay.
Of course, the feature itself isn't new. Some Android-powered vehicles and Tesla allow you to stream movies and videos and play games while parked. And now, Apple will likely do the same with the upcoming iOS 26 rollout. Once again, video streaming will only be allowed while the car is parked.
However, it will likely take some time to be adopted. For starters, developers would need to add support for CarPlay with AirPlay video, and some car manufacturers could end up introducing the feature at a later date. Some of them are wary of new features and need reassurance that videos can be played only when the vehicle is stationary.
Still, it's a pretty simple and straightforward feature, so it should reach all CarPlay-enabled cars sooner, rather than later.
