Nissan unveils the Aura Nismo RS Concept at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2026

Nissan

During this year's Tokyo Auto Salon, Nissan unveiled an RS concept version of the original Aura Nismo hot hatch. But unlike the Aura Nismo proper, the Aura Nismo RS Concept drives on Nissan's hybrid e-Power setup that employs a 1.5-liter combustion engine that powers up two electric motors and a battery, making it an AWD.

The small three-cylinder engine outputs 142 hp, while the front-mounted electric motor offers 201 hp, and the rear one is 134 hp. The Aura Nismo RS Concept also borrows the X-Trail Nismo and Rogue Nismo drivetrain that was introduced last year.

When it comes to styling, the concept features the exclusive Dark Matte Nismo Stealth Gray paint job with red accents typical for Nismo cars.

Compared to the standard Aura Nismo, the RS Concept is slightly wider with beefed-up fenders and a tad longer, too. Additionally, the concept rides 0.79 inches lower for extra stability.

Interestingly enough, the Aura Nismo RS Concept is about 220 lb heavier, but Nissan promises not just better handling, compared to the standard Aura Nismo, but also better braking performance.

Nissan's plans for the Aura Nismo RS Concept are to upgrade and race the car before it reaches production, but even then, we doubt that the vehicle will make it outside of Japan, as this is historically a Japan-only model.
