BMW is rolling out a long list of changes to its EV lineup for the summer of 2026. The brand is introducing a more affordable entry point for its fresh platform and adding smart technology across multiple models. The revisions target drivers who want better efficiency, smart digital tools, and more styling choices.

The absolute highlight of the update is the expansion of the iX3 lineup. The company is introducing the iX3 40 - a new entry-level option for this very popular SUV. This variant uses the brand's sixth-generation electric drive technology, created specifically for the Neue Klasse architecture. This setup operates on an 800V electrical system already known for very fast charging speeds.

The powertrain details of this base model show that the manufacturer did not compromise on performance. There's only one electric motor powering the rear axle with 235 kilowatts (320 horsepower). This motor generates 369 lb-ft of torque, and when accelerating from a complete stop, the vehicle can reach 62 mph in 5.9 seconds. The top speed for this model is electronically capped at 124 mph.

The new variant has a battery pack with a usable capacity of 82.6 kWh. Owners can recharge the battery at fast-charging stations with speeds of up to 300 kW. On a full charge, the vehicle achieves an electric driving range up to 396 miles under the global WLTP testing cycle. Energy consumption figures sit between 14.5 and 17.3 kWh for every 62 miles driven.

BMW is also introducing an updated version of its intelligent personal assistant that uses artificial intelligence. Developed with technology from Amazon Alexa, this voice-activated system understands normal spoken phrasing and contextual requests rather than simple voice commands. This assistant debuted in production models of the vehicle in mid-April of 2026.

Owners of vehicles built before this date will receive the upgrade via an over-the-air software update starting at the end of May 2026. Other vehicles using operating systems 9 and X will get the feature later in the year.

There are new visual customization options coming with the summer update. Customers can select from nine fresh paint finishes with metallic and pearl effects such as Sepang Bronze, Twilight Purple, Java Green, and Malachite Green, alongside solid options like Voodoo Blue. Buyers can also choose 21-inch aerodynamic wheels finished in black, a two-tone interior design called Contemporary Agave, and heated rear seats if they buy the optional innovation package.

Other electric cars in the stable are receiving cosmetic and comfort updates as well. The BMW i4 Gran Coupé is available with a new optional black package. This visual upgrade adds a darker, more athletic look to the exterior details of the vehicle. It is designed to give the popular four-door electric sedan a more assertive presence on the road.
