Geely

The ultra-competitive EV landscape in China demands non-stop improvement from auto manufacturers. To keep up with changing demand, Geely launched a refreshed version of its popular compact hatchback, the Geely Geome Xingyuan. International markets will get this updated vehicle under the name Geely EX2. The manufacturer introduced six distinct trim options with promotional pricing for the lineup starting from RMB 61,800 ($9,100) and going up to RMB 91,800 ($13,500) for the highest spec model.

Geely engineers improved the overall driving dynamics, safety systems, and the efficiency of the electric powertrain. The most notable upgrade involves the driving range - the new models now provide buyers with a choice between a 255 miles range and a longer 298 miles range variant, according to official CLTC testing standards.

The design updates present a soft aesthetic on the outside. Geely uses a friendly front fascia layout that incorporates LED headlights featuring distinctive light strips. The rear section of the vehicle got new taillights with 78 individual LEDs to improve visibility. Customers can choose from eight different exterior paint colors, and the refreshed EX2 rides on new 16-inch wheels that feature a petal-like pattern.

Physical dimensions put the new Geely in the subcompact category, making it suitable for urban environments. The hatchback measures 162.8 inches in length, 71.1 inches in width, and 61.8 inches in height. A wheelbase of 104.3 inches maximizes interior space relative to the small footprint of the car. Inside the cabin, Geely added two new color options: Taro White and Starry Grey.

Technology is a major selling point for modern EVs in the Chinese market. The EX2 dashboard gets an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster for the driver, alongside a larger 14.6-inch high-definition central touchscreen. The infotainment setup runs on the Galaxy Flyme Auto 2.0 system with a high-performance 8-core processor controlling the software (16 gigabytes of RAM and 128 gigabytes of built-in storage). This hardware supports advanced voice control functions, allowing passengers to interact with the vehicle using dual-zone voice recognition.

Advanced driver assistance systems also got an upgrade in this vehicle generation. The new model comes with a proprietary assistance system called G-Pilot H3. This technology package provides automated navigation on highway routes and elevated urban roads. It also delivers automated parking assistance capable of handling more than 300 different parking scenarios, alongside a 1.2 miles memory parking system. Safety features include a driver monitoring system that detects operator fatigue, and a security mode that monitors the vehicle when parked.

The CATL-supplied battery has a high energy density of 190 Wh/kg, helping to reduce the vehicle's weight. The onboard charging permits a peak fast-charging speed of 1.66C. In practical terms, this allows the battery pack to replenish its energy capacity from 30% to 80% in 19 minutes when connected to a compatible fast charger.

The aggressive pricing and quick feature updates reflect intense market pressures. The Geely Geome Xingyuan is China's top-selling new energy vehicle - the latest monthly data shows the model maintained its lead by delivering 34,727 units, outperforming larger rivals like the Tesla Model Y and the new Xiaomi SU7. Unfortunately, overall sales for the first four months of the year dropped by 2.6% compared to the prior year, explaining why Geely chose to refresh the vehicle so quickly.
