Mercedes

Mercedes will start offering its latest MB.Drive Assist Pro autonomous driving system to compatible vehicles in early 2027. The new ADAS got the UNECE clearance for Level 2 autonomous driving, but unlike the Drive Pilot available on the latest EQS, which got a Level 3 approval for certain highways, the MB.Drive Assist Pro will work in urban environments as well as on highways.

Level 2 means that the driver must maintain continuous attention on the road and take control of the vehicle at any time, as they are responsible, and even though it's a step below the Level 3 Drive Pilot system, it can be used to drive you from point A to point B in dense urban environments and on motorways. Mercedes highlights its partnership with Nvidia once again and gives credit to the Hyperion stack of software and hardware sensors.

Speaking of hardware, Mercedes vehicles equipped with the right 27 sensors can use MB.Drive Assist Pro. It relies on 10 cameras, 5 radars and 12 ultrasonic sensors that deliver raw data to Nvidia's high-performance chips.

This makes Mercedes once again the first in this regard. The manufacturer gets Level 2 clearance in Germany, after being the first to get a Level 3 license for its Drive Pilot ADAS back in December 2024. The carmaker promises to distribute the MB.Drive Assist Pro via an OTA update to compatible vehicles in early 2027 and will provide a 1-month free trial so customers can try it out. Furthermore, Mercedes is launching a pilot program in Stuttgart and Munich from the end of 2026 and will provide the software to select customers to test the feature and help iron out issues before the official launch in early 2027.
