Porsche adds two new models to Macan EV lineup

Porsche Announcement

It didn't take long for Porsche to expand its Macan EV lineup after debuting it in January.

The two new additions to the all-electric SUV series are a rear-wheel-drive Macan and a more powerful Macan 4S. This way, Porsche now lowers the entry barrier, but also adds something for those wanting a little bit more performance without breaking the bank.

The new rear-wheel-drive Macan becomes the base model in the series. It comes with a 100 kWh battery and a 250 kW (335 hp) rear-axle motor. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 136 mph. Even the cheapest Macan uses Porsche's innovative silicon carbide (SiC) transistors to enhance efficiency and reduce power loss. With a starting price of $75,300, this model is the cheapest electric Porsche yet.

On the other end of the spectrum, the Macan 4S packs a punch with its new rear-axle motor and a powerful 600-amp SiC pulse inverter. Combined with the front-axle motor from the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo, the 4S delivers a combined output of 330 kW (442 hp), with a temporary overboost of up to 380 kW (509 hp). It sprints from 0 to 60 mph in an impressive 3.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 149 mph. Priced at $84,900 the Macan 4S seems like a very reasonable upgrade, appealing to those seeking a sportier and more dynamic driving experience, but not willing to pay for the Macan Turbo.

Both models inherit the second-generation Macan's sleek design, aerodynamic efficiency (Cd = 0.25), and 800-volt architecture. The latter enables rapid DC charging at up to 270 kW, replenishing the battery from 10 to 80% in just 21 minutes.

Porsche is spicing things up with a new exterior color, Slate Grey Neo, and a 20-inch Macan S wheel option. Additionally, an off-road design package is available for all Macan EV models, adding a rugged touch and enhanced off-road performance. This package includes a redesigned front bumper for improved approach angle, increased ground clearance, and distinctive exterior accents.

Porsche adds two new models to Macan EV lineup in the US

Porsche is not taking any chances and not wasting any time. With Taycan sales slowing down in the US, and Macan on the rise, the expanded lineup should translate to better sales performance. Deliveries in North America are expected to start in Q4 of 2024 and it'll be interesting to see if the wider choice will attract some of the Taycan buyers, or if it will bring in a new group of customers.
